Therapy Session Take #1

WHAT: Mari is hosting a therapy session! Come if you would like, or if you want to argue against it feel free to show up as well! This is more informal than it seems although she did invite some guest speakers.
WHERE: One of the large buildings that was most likely a common area for everyone, or just a super large bedroom.
WHEN: After First Crossing

A message goes out on the server from Mari: Sorry for the delay everyone! I thought it best to wait a bit till after the meeting Kel thoughtfully put together for all of us! If you would like to come for the Therapy Session, please come to building X. If you would like to bring anyone or anything along please do! Special guest speakers/appearances include Makoto Naegi, Daniil Dankovsky, and Soo Won.

Mari put her tablet down and went back to straightening the chairs she was able to gather in a circle. Surely this would be welcoming? This way they could all see each other and seek comfort if needed... but just in case, she had set up private areas using curtains as a makeshift divider in case others felt the need for a one on one talk...

It still felt strange to her to not have refreshments so she had cups filled with water just in case, surely even if they didn't need to drink it still helped to make the session feel welcoming?

As people filtered in she would call out a greeting. "Welcome and thank you for coming! If you feel comfortable taking a seat please do so! There are also refreshments over there."

[Makoto walks into the room and smiles in approval at Mari-san's work. It looked great. Cozy and not too serious. Hopefully it will encourage people to talk, even a little. When he sees Mari, he offers her warm smile and nod before he takes a deep breath as he waits for people to notice him. When it's quiet enough, Makoto begins.]

Thank you Mari-san for setting things up. And thank you all for coming. I know it can be hard to talk about things, let alone to a room full of people, but it is really helpful. For you and others. I know that from personal experience. I didn't want to to talk about what happened to me, especially to a stranger but after talking to my therapist, I've found myself handling things, both from the past and the present, better.

It doesn't have to start big. Or even personal. Just talk to people and they will help you heal from all kinds of stuff. Despite how you might feel, there are a lot of good people here and they can help you. And if not, they can be your friends or even just your chat mates. You don't have to do anything you might be uncomfortable with. Let's just chat together and get to know each other. Everything else will fall into place. And perhaps, we'll find some peace together. I truly hope for that.

[Nagito can think of a thousand fawning things to say. They are all bouncing around his head at once, though, and so nothing comes out except a weird high whining noise. Somewhere in those thoughts he's really glad he reminded Sunny to take notes on this.

He is still making that weird noise, sorry.]

[Makoto turns to look at Nagito in concern at those noises. ...What even are those noises? It didn't sound even human.]

Komaeda-kun, are you okay? Do you need to sit down?

I'm fine! I'm wonderful, actually! [Aha, there's his voice.] Your words were just so hopeful, it can be overwhelming for someone like me!

[He should probably sit down, though he is not.]

[Makoto blushes slightly from the praise before he looks at his friend in concern.]

...Let's get you to a chair, okay?

[blindluck]

[Well, this is a little familiar.] If you think it's best.

[Unless Makoto steers him otherwise, though, he's going to pick one of the chairs farther from where anyone else is sitting.]

Ah, it really is too bad nobody here has enough talent to write your biography...

[Maybe he should allow for some other options if this is this version of Makoto's last opportunity to be immortalized in book form, though.]

Makoto let's Nagito choose the chair, hovering by his side as watches his friend in concern. But despite his worry, he can't help but humor Nagito's words.]

I'm sure you wouldn't need much to write my biography. Not that I want you to find someone who could!

[He really doesn't. But if it would make Nagito feel better...]

You don't want one? [Nagito tilts his head a little.] You're really too modest, Naegi-sama!

[Makoto chuckles sheepishly and scratches his cheek in embarrassment.]

I'd prefer not but if someone wanted to, it's their choice. I just don't think I'm that interesting of a subject.

[He doesn't understand why people seem to think otherwise.]

You must at least have a Wikipedia page, right? [Nagito was not really allowed unfettered internet access post-simulation while he was alive.] I think anyone would be inspired by your story. What everyone thinks is a completely average boy grows up, realizes he has a much greater destiny, and saves the world--people write lots of novels about that sort of thing, you know!

[Makoto shakes his head slightly at Nagito's exaggerations but chuckles with good nature as he replies.]

Does Wikipedia even exist still? I imagine the site hosting it stopping running after the Tragedy. I mean, even at the Future Foundation, it's hard to get info like that.

[Yashiro waited patiently and listened to the man's speech. His words held wisdom that was for sure...

He's also handsome... She couldn't stop herself from staring. Clearly she was blessed to be surrounded by Ikeman in this afterlife... When he was done speaking, she went up to talk to him.]

[Makoto turned to look at Yashiro and smiled at her sheepishly before answering.]

A little bit. I wanted it to be from the heart though. I just hope it came through well.

[He laughed slightly in embarrassment before smiling at her warmly.]

Thank you for coming and listening. I hope this chat helps in some way. By the way, how are you handling things? I know it can be hard to find out you're dead.

[Likewise, Sunny was also relieved that he had decided to take notes - and that Nagito had so kindly reminded him to do so.

Still… Makoto’s speech was a polarizing thing.

Sunny wanted to believe in it, the power that talking could cause positive change. But he had tried therapy before, had tried it and had it fail. Sure, part of that was because he wouldn’t, couldn’t talk about that incident. So the possibility of somehow talking during this meetup had his heart beating too hard in his chest.

To compensate, Sunny just threw himself into his notes. When the speech was done and he had recorded that, the teen’s hands scribbled down even further realizations and thoughts - connected and dotted with tiny drawings. Nagito would surely be very pleased by these notes, even if Sunny was reaching the point of too much.

And beyond that, the teen couldn’t get it out of his head… the way he had shut down on Makoto last time they had talked over the network. That didn’t make him a good friend. Sunny couldn’t approach him, couldn’t get an apology out of his throat, even if he wanted desperately to salvage whatever might be left to his view of his relation with Makoto.

The back and forth tug between hope and helplessness almost had him nauseous.]

[When Makoto saw Sunny writing something, he beamed at him and waved at cheerfully as he walked towards his friend.]

Sunny-kun! You're here too! Of course you are! Did Mari-san drag you here?

[He finished with a light tease. He could tell how much Sunny loved his sister. And how much Mari loved him back.]

[Contrary to Sunny’s cruel thoughts, Makoto didn’t seem angry at seeing him. The other seemed almost… happy? Like he always was.

Sunny fidgeted in his seat.]

U-um…

[A tentative nod. Yep, Mari was the reason Sunny was here… that and Nagito wanted notes on Makoto’s speech, the latter of which the other might see if he looks down at Sunny’s notebook.]

[Makoto tilted his head curiously at Sunny's hesitation and slowed down once he reached him.]

What's wrong, Sunny-kun? Is there something bothering you? Oh! You're writing something in your notebook again! What is it this time? Another great idea like last time?

[He beamed at Sunny as he tried to peak at the contents of the notebook.]

[Sunny shakes his head. Makoto was just so… bright. Kind.

It really was all Sunny’s fault…]

Your… speech… [Sunny admitted, letting Makoto see the notebook if he wanted. He wasn’t going to hide it… even if there were some comments and small doodles that made absolutely no sense…

He averted his gaze.

Last time they spoke… Makoto said it’s important to apologize.] …S-sorry…

[Makoto leaned in further to see the contents of the notebook, then looked up at Sunny curiously.]

You're writing notes about my speech?

[He didn't understand why someone would be so interested in his words but before he could ask, he hears Sunny's apology. Tilting his head he asks with a soft but confused tone.]

What for? What's wrong Sunny-kun?

[Sunny nods shyly at that, hoping his notes were good enough.] Nagito… had the idea… [He couldn’t take credit, and maybe it would seem less creepy coming from a friend? He didn’t want Makoto to feel uncomfortable or anything…

Though… Sunny was stuck. He fidgeted in his chair. Makoto… didn’t remember? Or maybe the reaction had bothered Sunny more? The teen flips several pages back in his notebook, searching for a specific entry.

His hands tremble a bit as he holds the notebook out for Makoto to see.]

L-last time… u-uh… I didn’t… [It was so hard to explain. He hadn’t been mad at Makoto, but Sunny felt he really hadn’t handled the interaction properly. Like Makoto said, it was best to apologize when you did something wrong.]

[Mari smiles as he goes to sit down. She had made the right choice in asking him to speak. After all, he sounds like he knew better than anyone how to deal with negative experiences.]

[He sighs before looking at her softly.]

It was a great idea of setting this up, Mari-san. I'm glad you did. I hope the others make use of it well.

I do too...

[She truly did. If they could feel comfortable confiding in each other, sharing their burdens like some of them had during the Crossing, then just maybe it could help them overall.]

While I might have set it up, I couldn't have done much without the help of others... after all the event might have just been an empty one if others didn't participate.

[She was curious about what a lot of the others lives were like before coming here too.]

It might be a bit rude of me... but when you mentioned going to therapy before... was it similar to this? Or on a more personal level?

[Makoto nods in agreement at Mari's words, glad that she understands. It was nice to talk to someone who thought like him with this.

Makoto's warm smile turns sad at her question but he answers.]

It was more...personal. My friends and I had just gone through a traumatic event and needed some evalulation before being ready for our new jobs. We were given a therapist to help and evaluate each of us. I don't know about the others but it really helped me handle...things.

[Mari nodded as she listened to his explanation. It made sense after all. Not just being evaluated for a job position but also making sure that those involved in traumatic events were able to cope...]

I'm sorry if I brought up any bad memories. However, I am glad that you and your friends were able to get some help. If you ever feel the need to talk to anyone, I'm more than happy to listen.

[Her expression turned thoughtful for a moment before she continued.]

Was Nagito apart of that group as well?
