Dankovsky doesn't know if he'd describe it as cool, but Kel is a kid, and he gets that he's trying to be polite. He can imagine Kel's future, one where everyone goes without want, and where his reality is almost like a story to Kel.
It's likely better off that way, truthfully. It's hard to take offense when it means that Kel didn't suffer the way he's seen children suffer in his own time.

It looked a bit greasy, everything that wasn't too sweet looked like it was drowning in grease which Dankovsky is also not used to. But he'll try it, particularly if it's something Kel is so dearly fond of.
