While everyone else seems to be busy making preparations for the sleepover, Sunny mostly sleeps. And then, one day, a conversation he had with Nagito drifts back to him, and the teen realizes he hasn’t found that item yet.

Which prompts him to search, first around their communal living space and then branching out to the other huts. He tries to stay away from the ones marked with strands of grass (those ones walk, he says), but searching is hard work and… there’s a lot more stuff here than there was in the Oasis!

Sunny might need help… but he’s afraid to ask for help, because things feel shaky right now. He feels all out of sorts, stuck between a hazy dream and the mist-filled world he can spy outside the bedroom window.

Someone is bound to take notice eventually, right? So he shouldn’t be surprised when he hears the creak of floorboards behind him, even as his body freezes and he looks like he was caught doing something not allowed.

But Sunny, that's alright. Everybody makes mistakes. As long as they can be fixed, it's not a big problem - and even they can't be fixed, there's usually something that can be done. What kind of mistake did you make?

[It’s good that it’s an open question. That means Sunny doesn’t have to be truthful.

Or… does he?

The thought of lying to Frieda, of backtracking his admission, has something uncomfortable twisting his stomach into knots.

What hadn’t he made a mistake of? The past four years? Prior to that? The Incident? Trying to save his friend? Waking up from a dream that could have just stayed idealistic?

It took a long time for Sunny to figure out what to write. His hands still shook, so the letters weren’t really even.]

Had a fight

[Which fight might he be referring to? He hasn’t decided yet.]

Hm, I figured. But we just saw that a fight isn't the end of the world, didn't we? Even if people hurt each other badly in the heat of the moment, with mutual goodwill that hurt can be mended. It's just like a physical wound: If it's properly treated, it'll heal so well that not even a scar remains. It just takes time, like all healing.

[Granted, here in the afterlife, any wounds incurred during the Crossing heal much faster than they normally would - but the downside is the crookedness. Daniil with his bad leg is a walking cautionary tale (much as she wouldn't say that to him).]

I'm sure you want yourself and the person you fought with to heal from it, don't you, Sunny?

[Frieda is making a lot of sense right now, especially in a way that Sunny can relate. The teen’s hand brushes his clothed eye. It was healing, right…? And yet, the idea of confronting Kel with this felt scarier than that.

Sunny had already tried to talk with Basil and failed…

But…

He nods, small yet sure.]

I miss being friends.

[Not that Kel hadn’t said they weren’t friends… they hadn’t talked really since Sunny had passed out. But… who would want to be friends with him when…?]

[Good - she thought so (though she does wonder how bad it must have been for him to feel that at present, he's no longer friends with Kel).]

That's the most important part, and the first step. But I'm afraid you'll have to plan things out a little more, just like you need a treatment plan for an injury. Did you say something mean that you need to apologise for? Or did you tell the other person a painful truth that they find hard to accept? Or could you not agree on how to solve some other problem? We have to figure out how to mend this wound.
