WHO: Shep, Hanako and Yashiro
WHAT: The commander tries to talk some sense. Results pending
WHERE: Near the Oasis.
WHEN: A few days after this conversation
WARNINGS: None at the moment; will warn in subject line of tag.
Allynbee had messaged both Hanako and Yashiro, asking if they wanted to talk about their plans for the Crossing before everything went underway. She suspected that talking sense into either of them might not work, given Hanako's strong desire to shelter his friend and unfamiliarity with the girl. Mentally, she groused that Dankovsky owed her one for spearheading this for him - knowing damn well she'd likely done this anyway if Hanako or his friend attempted to abandon the Ferryman during the Crossing itself.
Dealing with people was one of the commander's stronger 'soft' skills, but kids were a blind spot that made her a little uneasy. So, she waited for the two at an unoccupied shelter and pondered the best way to proceed.

Assuming three way thread but let me know if we want to change that!
Attempt being the key word.
Dankovsky had wanted to do the same, surely, and if the boy had any inkling that the Bachelor had been the one to request this of Allynbee, he would have laughed.
It wouldn’t make a difference. Not what any of them said.
That didn’t stop Hanako from rendezvousing with Yashiro before the meet up though… to make sure he could keep an eye on her.
When Shepard came into view, Hanako waved happily. He hopped behind Yashiro, hands almost pushing her (gently) forward towards the taller woman.
“Captain, hi! Yashiro, I don’t think you two have met, have you? This is Yashiro, my personal assistant~!”
Sorry for the delay!
Regardless though, she had decided that meeting up and talking wouldn't hurt anyone. It was still strange that others could see Hanako-kun though...
At Hanako-kun's gentle push however-after all maybe the two were friends already?- she offered her hand, her eyes lighting up upon seeing who it was they were meeting.
"Ah! Commander! It's nice to see you again!"
No prob <3
Shepard met the girl’s enthusiasm with a smile and completed the handshake.
“It’s good to see you too, Yashiro. Are you holding up okay?”

The boy looks back and forth between the two, blinking for a few moments, before a wide smile appeared on his face.
“Eeeh~? You two knew each other already? That makes the introduction I just did a tad embarrassing!” He doesn’t seem concerned by the knowledge at all. Once again, it didn’t matter how much these people prodded Yashiro to change her mind - he was convinced that she wouldn’t.
(Despite being easier to manipulate than most people who interacted with the supernatural, his personal assistant did, in fact, have a stubborn streak.)
He does wait patiently for them to get pleasantries out of the way, leaning against one of the walls of their meeting area casually.

“I’ve been doing well! It’s still a bit strange to believe we’re all dead… well besides Hanako-kun. He was dead before we got here…”
She glanced over at her friend and sighed.
“That’s not true at all Hanako-kun! I didn’t know you knew the Commander either! At least this way we can all be friends!”
They had come here to talk about the Crossing… but then again Yashiro was still trying to keep in further back in her brain.

Idly, Shepard wonders if Dankovsky is the only person in the group who doesn’t believe they’re dead. It would explain why Nagito was so willing to antagonize him into going with the group.
“Honestly, in both of your defenses, it was a recent and brief introduction,” she makes a small gesture encompassing the three of them. “I hope we can all get to know each other better.”

Yashiro accepting that she was dead… was such a strange point for Hanako. Of course he wants her to be smart about all of this, but he can’t think too long on the fact that…
Anyway, he smiles at Allynbee again. “So, Captain, what did you want to talk to us about~?”
Us. As if the physical reminder of his presence here wasn’t enough. Or maybe he’s simply wanting to goad her a bit. She won’t get to Yashiro alone, not with the fact that Hanako seems to be nearby the other girl constantly.

Although what he said next reminded her the reason they all had gathered.
"Oh yeah!" The captain had called them out to talk! "Something about Crossing plans right?"
no subject
"Yes. I was trying to get a headcount of who was going with the Ferryman."
Don't offer the alternative as an option.. She gives a small smile.
"I know things might have changed since I asked on the network post."
no subject
He gives her a smile, as if reading through her staying neutral stance. The unspoken part of that question hung in the air… at least to him.
“Ne, ne, Yashiro, what were you thinking~?” He asks this more to goad a response out of his assistant, already knowing her answer. It was specifically why he had gone in person to talk to her before anyone else had approached.
One the seed was planted, all Yashiro had to do was make sure the roots didn’t get tore up! And everyone’s attempts were adding water and fertilizer to the already budding idea.

Oh yeah! You weren’t there for that conversation but Hanako-kun and I decided to try crossing on our own.
[She had no clue that Hanako-kun had already told the woman this of course.]
What about you?
no subject
I'm still trying to figure out my way through. [It's not a lie exactly, but three kids, the doctor, and that noble from the network were a sizable group to keep an eye on alone. She desperately wanted a hint about what the crossing might entail for those going without the Ferryman.]
I'm surprised you two are willing to risk the wraith attacks.
no subject
Alas, he hadn’t been able to get anything out of the Ferryman on that regard, and even talking to those that had Crossed before had been a bag of mixed results.
Still, if Allynbee is going to have them use logic, then he’s going to try and figure out all he can in the process.]
Oh, you see, we’re used to dealing with the unknown, right Yashiro? Maybe we’ll even be able to sneak by them~
[Not the most sound logic, but Hanako isn’t worried about that. He’s aware of what Allynbee is trying to do - and the boy is 90% sure they will have to improvise in the moment anyway.]
no subject
[Yashiro gave a nervous laugh. Its true that she kept running into things that were mere rumors before and then turned out to be true... but Hanako-kun was always there to rescue her!]
B-but he's always there to rescue me! Like the time I nearly got kidnapped by fish!
[She wasn't sure what this rambling had to do with their predicament... but once she got started on a topic it was hard to stop her.]
no subject
[Allynbee suppressed her laugh, but still smiled at the girl. Hanako's propensity for heroics drew enough surprise that she didn't bother masking it, brows skimming high on her forehead and gaze cutting over to the spirit-boy.]
Really?
no subject
Mostly because he was used to some form of understanding or control. (Spend fifty years in the same place and you tend to get comfortable!)
That being said, the ghost boy was used to Yashiro somewhat extolling his virtues (when she wasn’t miffed about his teasing), but Allynbee’s blatant surprise has a streak of embarrassed bashfulness run through him.]
Of course! I couldn’t let my assistant get hurt, now could I? And she’s always getting into trouble - so sometimes she has to fall a bit first~
[At this, he wraps his arms around Yashiro in a hug, a bit more teasingly than normal… mostly so he could hide the blush that was threatening to bloom over his cheeks.]
