A Most Important Inquiry

WHO: Sunny, Soo Won, and YOU! (OTA)
WHAT: Soo Won doesn’t know what a battery is. Sunny tried, but he needs some help. That’s where you come in!
WHERE: Network (let’s be honest though - Sunny doesn’t leave the Oasis)
WHEN: post-Crossing Meeting, pre-Quests kicking off
WARNINGS Talk of batteries, electricity, relevant CWs (if any) will be in subject headings ^^

## The Crossing Meeting had barely ended when a message crossed everyone’s devices.

Sunny had gotten himself into a bit of a quandary and… he needed help. He hated asking for help, but this was important. Possible the most importantthing he had asked so far.

A single message cuts across the screen/notebook page (take your pick):

What’s a battery? Help. ##

When I was your age I was loud, about as broad as a wall, and violence meant not having to think about my problems, so I might have liked it then. Alas.

That does sound like the sort of market for it, as far as I could tell!

[He actually doesn't mean that as an insult.]

It's always possible I would have taken against whatever laser lights and glow sticks are. But maybe that enhances the violence.

I think all of it was for enhancing the violence. But they're probably not as dangerous now!

Yeah ultimately it sounds like a step up from the kinds of things I would do. I don't miss being a kid.

[inasmuch as she remembers it, anyway.]

Really? The more common point of view is to say that youth is wasted on the young, isn't it?

That's just talking about having a strong body that recovers more quickly.

[Hm. She can't say 'when you get older and look back' here. It would be so cruel to talk about how perspective and experience make life so much better and easier to handle to a gaggle of dead children.]

I was a miserable idiot when I was twenty. If I was here at that age I'd be picking fights and trying to make a still.

It is probably best we don't have something like that, even if I think some people would appreciate it. And I suppose I would be handling things here differently if I had been brought here a few years earlier, even if that isn't as much of a gap compared to you.

[Especially since Need is over a thousand.]

'Can I ferment cactus pulp? Can I still get drunk? I'm going to find out.' etc

How old are you?

[lmao if you lined up every age in game it's absurd.]

[oh he's a baby, Need thinks.]

Yep. A couple years can make a difference at any age but especially when you're young.

I wonder if that still applies here. We don't know how long we'll be Crossing, do we?

[He'll be twenty-two forever, but if he's here for another year, or even more, what does that mean?]

Ah, you have some experience with that, don't you? What do you think?

I certainly don't.

[it's actually very frustrating. usually Need knows something about anything.]

About what? How the dead change over years?

Yes. Do you get more mature? We're still experiencing new things.

[personal profile] hasapoint 2025-03-31 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. Even without new things, there are reflections on the past.

I'm very different from who I was when I first died, but I'm sure in part that's because I stayed close to the living world and that changes you. You all seem to be who you were alive, even having close approximations of the bodies you knew.

If I'd come here soon after death I might have been, oh, human-shaped but seeming to be made of glowing motes suspended in a clear medium like glass. It took a very long time to learn to seem solid and alive!

[Also that in that form she'd have a burning sword through her chest, she doesn't say.]

That sounds a little more like the kinds of ghosts I've read about in novels.[There's usually something spooky and supernatural about them, anyway.] I don't really feel that much different than I did when I was alive. I have more stamina, maybe.

Do you still breathe when you don't have to to talk?
blindluck: (002)

[personal profile] blindluck 2025-03-31 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Usually! I can stop for a while but usually I just automatically start breathing again at some point. It must just be reflex.
