## A Sunhat for You, A Sunhat for Me (Closed to Mari)

[After Sunny’s visit to the Ferryman, he had been acting somewhat strange. A little more aloof, especially when it came to his sister. He normally didn’t approach her, keeping a respectable distance away, until…

One day, he did.

Sunny’s expression can only be described as one a sibling gives their elder when they’ve been caught hiding a secret - which is entirely true. His ears burn in embarrassment and his gaze is pointed away from Mari, AND he’s hiding something in his hands behind his back. It’s difficult getting the words out to tell her what though.]

Begone, Sun Rays! (OTA)

[Those who may have seen Sunny around the Oasis might notice he looks a little different lately: he’s wearing a watermellon-colored sunhat. On top of that, he’s actually walking outside now even during the daytime.

Said hat might be the cause.

Anyone who approaches Sunny may be met with the teen flipping the hat inside out, showing a brightly colored toucan on the inside-now-outside. He looks quite pleased with himself.]

T-Tada…!

They do. It is their work, but they do it with compassion.

Did you ask them for something to protect against the heat?

[Sunny was grateful for that fact. Just because someone had a job to do doesn’t mean that they were obligated to show kindness. He inwardly shuddered, remembering the owner of the candy store back home, the way she would yell if she thought you were trying to take candy without paying.

No thank you…]

Frieda… suggested it… [There was something in the teen’s countenance that changed as he said that: his whisper was almost fond, like he was admitting a close held secret, and he rocked back and forth on his heels.] The sun… is bright… and too hot…

[So it helped him be able to walk around more. Normally, Sunny would have been content to just stay inside and nap, but now? He found he wanted to look around, when he could.]

It is at that. I thought the sun welcome, after our time in the darkness, but the heat is miserable.

[Celehar is going to toast before too long, if someone doesn't do something about that - but for now he's only flushed under the pale skin, his hair showing its natural curls more dramatically as it struggles itself free of the braid.

A thought occurs to him, though, seeing Sunny's noticeable enthusiasm, for him, over the hat.]

[Sunny could agree with that wholeheartedly. He had always struggled with the heat, burning too easily and getting dizzy from it if left out too long, but the sheer intensity of it here was nigh unbearable. Hence the fact he was taking steps to mitigate it - at the suggestion of others. Sunny could never really ask for something for himself otherwise.

He nodded at Celehar’s question.] It… is. Used to… go to… the beach… [With Mari and his friends. It was a good activity for the summer, even if he normally ended up being buried in sand most of the time.]

[Celehar seems taken aback by that, looking down at Sunny as though reevaluating for some reason, attention shifting momentarily between the hat and Sunny's face.

In truth such a statement - to travel, so casually, to the seaside - would mark a noble, in his home, the only beach nearby in Amalo being the filthy banks of the river or the nearby canal.

After a moment he masters himself once more, to continue the conversation mostly as he already had.]

Then it was kind indeed of them, to bring you something that might invoke such memories.

[Sunny wasn’t sure how to read that expression. As the elf seemed to study him, and then the hat, and then him… the teen fidgeted. Had he done something wrong?

Celehar’s words weren’t judgmental though.]

They’re… kind…

[He agreed with a nod. While others still might not fully trust the Ferryman, Sunny had been given no reason not to trust them. His opinion might be a bit more skewed by the nice hat too.]

[Whatever it was, Celehar seems to have shaken it off in due course, returning to his usual demeanor. If Sunny is indeed a noble by his measuring, he's not the first Celehar has met, after time spent in the Untheileineiese court.

Though - something occurs to him in turn.]

They did not ask a favor in turn, then.

This might change as I’m not sure, but Sunny doesn’t know how rewards points work XD

[Sunny had no clue what conclusion Celehar might be coming to, but if he had known it would be to compare the teen to a noble, he would have fervently disagreed. Unless a noble was someone who had new video games and a treehouse in their backyard.

At the elf’s question, Sunny’s brow furrowed… and then he shook his head.] N-no. [He didn’t think so, at least. The Ferryman had just said they would do their best to help where they could, but they couldn’t make promises. He wrote this down too, for Celehar to read. And as far as Sunny knew, he still remembered everything since entering the desert, so no worries there.]

[Such things would certainly seem like luxuries in Celehar's time and world! Even as mundane as they must be to Sunny. But for now - for now Celehar relaxes, somewhat. He's proven his own trust in the Ferryman in word and deed, but despite their guidance, delivering items seems beneath them.

It's not impossible to think of them as simply a kind figure, but to Celehar, the gods are not always kind.]

Just as well, then. Do you mean to search the area?

[Sunny considers that possibility - normally, he would be glad to head back to the makeshift hut he shared with Mari and take a nap.

But… the hat did make walking around outside more bearable (and fun)!

He nods, a little shy.]

For… a bit… just… the Oasis…

It is cooler around the water.

[Celehar's been varying between there and the shelters himself, to attempt to protect his own too-pale skin from the sun - Need's already bullied him about head coverings, and Frieda soon will do the same to him, though he doesn't know it yet.]

It is a sight better than the rivers in the City.

[Thankfully, Sunny won’t bully Celehar on anything (Need and Frieda have that in hand), though he does feel a little bad that he doesn’t have a hat to give Celehar.

He likes his own too much to give it up.

He does shudder a bit at the mention of the rivers, but agrees nonetheless: the desert was a sight more familiar to him, even if it had been just in his dreams.]

It… is… [One might notice that Sunny still seems a bit dirty, hair dull and skin dry, though his clothes are clean. He doesn’t want to go in the pond, even if it is to bathe, but his sister at least convinced him to rinse off his clothing.]

[Seeing as Sunny has gone just a touch quiet at the moment, Celehar looks down at him, considering.]

Sought you someplace, before I interrupted?

[It wasn't quite an interruption, given that Sunny had promptly shown it off, but Celehar has to assume that use of the sun protection must mean that the young man intends to take advantage of that to explore in some form, whether he's reluctant to move outside of the light's protection or not.]

A-ah… [He shakes his head no. Really he had just been wanting to show off his new hat!

It was a simplistic sort of desire, a base excitement that he hadn’t felt in a while, but it was an important step forward to Sunny. Kel and Mari would surely agree.

He flushed, a bit embarrassed now. Had he bothered Celehar with the announcement?] S-sorry…

[It brings a quirk to his mouth - is that a smile? Whatever it is, it certainly isn't bothered, but some gentle amusement for the enthusiasm that had brought Sunny around.]

Think nothing of it. I did not mean to keep you from your adventure, 'tis all.

[It was as much a smile as any other part of their strange, shared way of communicating. Sunny understood Celehar more than he did most other people, and that made him comfortable.

That being said, the elf was just one wanted stop on his mini adventure; the teen would wave goodbye, somewhat shyly, before moving on to the next victim person.]
